Jio Giga Fibre – Jio Unveils Sky-High Speeds with India’s First Satellite-Based Giga Fibre

Jio Giga Fibre – Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio) unveiled India’s first satellite-based giga fibre service, JioSpaceFiber, at the India Mobile Congress on Friday, October 27, 2023. The service will bring high-speed internet to even the remotest parts of the country at incredibly low costs.

JioSpaceFiber is the latest addition to Jio’s exclusive range of broadband offerings, which also includes JioFiber and JioAirFiber. The service is aimed at promoting digital inclusiveness for every family in India, regardless of location. JioSpaceFiber offers businesses and people unparalleled access to high-speed, reliable, and low-latency internet and entertainment services.

The satellite network will also provide additional capacity for mobile backhaul, which will further improve the availability and scale of Jio True 5G in the most remote areas of the nation.

Jio has partnered with SES to gain access to the most advanced medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology available today. This MEO constellation is the only one that can provide truly unique gigabit-class services from space.

JioSpaceFiber has already been connected to four remote sites in India to showcase its strength and reach:

  • Gir, Gujarat
  • Korba, Chattisgarh
  • Nabrangpur, Odissa
  • ONGC-Jorhat, Assam

JioSpaceFiber will connect millions more people who are not currently connected to the internet, enabling them to fully participate in the new digital society with gigabit access to online services for governance, education, health, and entertainment.

John-Paul Hemingway, Chief Strategy Officer at SES, said that he is honored to support the Government of India’s Digital India initiative with Jio’s unique satellite-based broadband solution. He believes that JioSpaceFiber will deliver gigabit-per-second throughput to any location in India, enabling digital transformation even in the most rural parts of the country. Akash Ambani added that JioSpaceFiber is already deployed in parts of India, and that the company is excited to see the impact it will have.
