261 Dead and 900 Injured After Horrific Train Crash
Coromandel Express Accident: The train that was traveling from Howrah to Chennai crashed into the overturned coaches of another train that was going from Bengaluru to Kolkata.
A tragic collision involving three trains in Balasore, Odisha, resulted in the loss of at least 261 lives and left approximately 900 people injured. This incident is the deadliest railway accident in the country in over 20 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally visit the accident site and meet with the injured people at hospitals in Cuttack, as mentioned in a tweet from his office.
The crash happened between three trains: the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train.

During the accident, one train forcefully collided with another, resulting in the lifting, twisting, and derailing of several carriages. Another carriage ended up completely flipped onto its roof, causing severe damage to the passenger section.
Sanjay Mukhia, a daily wage worker who was traveling on the Coromandel-Shalimar Express to Chennai, described the terrifying experience, saying, “Everything was shaking, and we could feel the coach tipping over,” as he showed his injuries to NDTV.
The survivor said, “I was asleep when the train derailed. Around 10 to 15 people fell on top of me. When I got out of the coach, I witnessed scattered body parts, with limbs here and there, and someone’s face badly injured.”
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that a special committee will be formed to investigate the train accident.
In response to the tragic train crash, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced a one-day period of mourning in the state.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted on Twitter that she is personally monitoring the situation along with the Chief Secretary and other senior officers.
Regarding the accident on the Howrah-Chennai main line in the Kharagpur division of the South Eastern Railway. Specifically, 48 trains have been canceled, 39 trains have been redirected, and 10 trains have been terminated early.
