Valimai, starring superstar Ajith Kumar in the lead, has finally released in theatres. Ajith’s fixation with the letter, ‘V’, continues after Veeram, Vedalam, Vivegam and Viswasam. And the H. Vinoth directorial has passed with flying colours at the box office, collecting a whopping gross of ₹53.36 crore on day 1, of which a very handsome ₹30.15 crore gross came from Tamil Nadu alone. So, where does Ajith Kumar Valimai stand among the top highest openers in Tamil Nadu? Well, as high as no. 2, which we’re sure will delight Ajith Kumar fans no end. Which movie is no. 1 though? Check out the entire list of the highest opening-day box-office collections in Tamil Nadu below

Sarkar: ₹32.68 crore gross (holiday opening)
Valimai: ₹30.15 crore gross
Master: ₹26.34 crore gross
Annaatthe: ₹25.47 crore gross (holiday opening)
Bigil: ₹24.65 crore gross
Mersal: ₹23.82 crore gross (holiday opening)
Kabali: ₹20.54 crore gross
Darbar: ₹18.76 crore gross
Viswasam: ₹17.48 crore gross
Vivegam: ₹17.36 crore gross Also Read – Valimai box office collection day 1: Ajith Kumar and Huma Qureshi starrer takes BUMPER opening; non-holiday record in Tamil Nadu

As as evidenced, Ajith Kumar has taken the second spot and also set the non-holiday record in Tamil Nadu with Valimai. It’s also telling that the list is dominated by only three superstars, Thalapathy Vijay, Thalaivar Rajinikanth and Thala Ajith, demonstrating their stronghold over the audience in the state. Also, considering that theatres are still to properly get back on their feet after a new set of restrictions, plus the fact that it was a non-holiday, Valimai would’ve almost certainly beaten Sarkar’s day 1 gross under normal circumstances, holiday release or not.

Coming to Valimai, BollywoodLife gave the movie 3 out of 5 stars in its review and wrote: “The bike chases, stunt choreography and Ajith show make Valimai watchable. Just don’t go in expecting much else. The post-interval highway chase scene between several bikes and a police convoy alone is worth the price of admission. If only the adrenaline being pumped had more of a heartbeat, Valimai would’ve been a thrill-a-minute ride. The screenplay has barely anything of note to offer and is so interminably long that you wonder if the editor was sent on leave. Watch it for Ajith Kumar being at the front and center of every minute detail Valimai and Director H. Vinoth displaying his flair for white-knuckle, adrenaline-pumping action, with the bike chase sequences and stunt choreography coming across as genuinely original, innovative, and a thing to behold.”
