Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as the owner of Twitter, recently started a new company called xAI. The main purpose of this company is to explore and understand the true essence of the universe using AI technology. Musk and his team will provide further details about xAI during a live chat on Twitter this Friday (14th July). Musk believes that AI will surpass human intelligence within the next 5 years.

Details regarding xAI were made public for the first time in April. According to The Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk established a new AI company called XAI on March 9, 2023. The company’s main office is located in Nevada, Texas, USA, and Elon Musk is the only listed director. Jared Birchell, the director of Musk’s family office, has been appointed as the company secretary.
Musk said AI will become smarter than humans within 5 years.
During a Twitter event, Musk explained his strategy to develop a safer AI. He also predicted that within the next five to six years, superintelligent AI will emerge and surpass human intelligence. Elon Musk added that if AI focuses on understanding the fundamental nature of the universe, it would be beneficial in terms of AI safety.
Musk also worries about AI causing harm to civilization destruction.
Musk has been actively supporting the need for caution and rules when it comes to developing AI. He has expressed his concerns multiple times about the potential risks of uncontrolled AI advancement leading to “civilization destruction.” To ensure safety, Elon Musk’s company xAI will take a unique approach in building its AI system.
The xAI team will consist of 12 members, including Elon Musk.
The xAI team comprises people who have previously worked at DeepMind, Open AI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, and Tesla. These team members have contributed to significant projects such as DeepMind’s Alphacode and OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 chatbots.
Elon Musk will lead the team, alongside Igor Babushkin, Guodong Zhang, Yuhui Wu, Christian Szegedi, Jimmy Bae, Toby Pohlen, Ross Nordin, Kyle Kosick, Greg Yang, Manuel Kroes, and Jihang Die. Although the new company is separate from Musk’s X Corp, it will collaborate closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies.
