CSK CEO Vishwanathan informed: MS Dhoni undergoes knee surgery in Mumbai

CSK CEO Vishwanathan has informed that MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, had knee surgery in Mumbai. Dhoni is now focusing on a long and intense recovery period to determine if he can play another IPL season.

MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, had surgery on his left knee in a hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. After leading his team to their fifth IPL title.

CSK CEO Vishwanathan has informed that Dhoni traveled from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and consulted with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a well-known sports orthopedic surgeon who is part of the BCCI medical panel. Dr. Pardiwala has performed surgeries on several top Indian cricketers, including Rishabh Pant.

Viswanathan confirmed that MS Dhoni had successful knee surgery at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. He mentioned that Dhoni is recovering well and the surgery took place in the morning. However, he added that he does not have all the specific details about the surgery and its nature at the moment.

As per PTI, MS Dhoni has been released from the hospital after undergoing a keyhole surgery known as “arthroscopic repair.” A source from CSK stated that Dhoni has returned to his home in Ranchi and will rest for a few days before beginning his thorough rehabilitation process. The expectation is that he will have ample time to recover and regain fitness for the upcoming IPL season.

Throughout the IPL season, Dhoni had a heavily strapped left knee. While he seemed fine while keeping wickets, he usually batted at a lower position (No. 8) and appeared slower while running between the wickets. However, after leading his team to their fifth IPL title, Dhoni expressed his desire to play at least one more season for the fans, if his body permits.

Dhoni expressed that considering the circumstances, it would be the ideal time to announce retirement. He mentioned that the easy option would be to say thank you and retire, but the challenging path would involve working hard for nine months to try and play one more IPL season. It all depends on whether his body can handle it. However, Dhoni acknowledged the immense love he has received from CSK fans and considered it a gift to play one more season for them.

The love and emotions shown by the fans have influenced my decision. I know this is the final phase of my career, and the support I received from the crowd, especially in Chennai, was overwhelming. Dhoni believes it would be great to return and play to the best of his abilities, showcasing the unique style of cricket he is known for. The fans relate to his unorthodox approach, and Dhoni prefers to keep his game simple.

On Wednesday, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that it was “completely Dhoni’s call” when asked if the captain would decide against playing next season and thus free up a purse of INR 15 crore for the mini-auction.

CSK KEO mentioned that they haven’t even considered those possibilities yet and it’s not something they are currently thinking about. He emphasized that the decision will be entirely up to Dhoni. However, Viswanathan assured that such thoughts have not been entertained within CSK.
