PM Modi Visits Odisha Train Crash Site, Meets Survivors at Hospital

PM Modi Visits Odisha: PM Modi called a meeting to review the situation regarding last night’s train accident in which 261 people were killed.

Today, PM Narendra Modi visits the site where the train crash in Odisha. His office tweeted that he would visit the injured individuals in hospitals located in Cuttack. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, was inspecting the accident site.

PM Modi arrived in an Air Force helicopter near the location of the incident at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Balasore district, which is around 170 km north of Bhubaneswar. He will go to Balasore District Hospital to meet and visit the injured peoples who survived the crash.

Earlier today, PM Modi convened a meeting to review the situation at the Odisha train crash site that happened last night. Sadly, 261 people lost their lives, and more than 900 people were injured.

On Friday at 7 pm, a train accident occurred in Balasore when one of the coaches of a train derailed. As a result Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train collided with each other.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is currently in the state to check out the situation and visit the injured people in hospitals. Similarly, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, visited Balasore this morning and discussed the situation with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

This afternoon, railway spokesperson Amitabh Sharma mentioned that the rescue operation in the terrible train accident has finished, and the process of restoring the affected area has begun. This update comes approximately 18 hours after the horrific collision.

In the crash, one train collided forcefully with another, causing the carriages to be lifted high in the air and then forcefully twisted and thrown off the tracks. Additionally, a carriage ended up completely flipped over, causing severe damage to the passenger section. Railway officials stated that over 3,400 passengers were traveling in these two trains.

The Railways Ministry has initiated a thorough investigation to understand how the accident occurred. They have also declared compensation of ₹10 lahks for the families of the deceased and ₹2 lahks for those who sustained serious injuries. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi has announced a compensation of ₹2 lahks for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
