The All India Cine Workers Association has demanded a ban on Adipurush.

According to a report from news agency ANI, the All India Cine Workers Association has written to PM Modi. Suresh Shyamlal Gupta, the president of the All India Cine Workers Association, stated, “The All Indian Cine Workers Association demands a ban on the movie Adipurush. The screenplay and dialogues of this movie clearly tarnish the reputation of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Adipurush Movie is hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and Sanatan Dharma.”

A section of their letter stated, “This movie’s screenplay and dialogues are clearly defaming the image of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Adipurush’s movie is hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus and Sanatan Dharm. Prabhu Sri Ram is a god for everyone in India and no matter what religious faith one comes from, this movie depicts Lord Ram and even Raavan who looks like a character of a video game, with dialogues hurting every Indian in the country and across the globe. Actor Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan shouldn’t have been part of such a disgraceful movie ever made in the history of Indian Cinema. Adipurush is a complete disaster of our faith in Shri Ram and Ramayan.”

The letter also requested a ban on the film, stating, “We urge Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate action to halt the screening of this movie and ban Adipurush from being shown in theaters and OTT platforms in the future.” They also demanded that the director (Om Raut), writer (Manoj Muntasir Shukla), and producers of the film face legal action. “We demand the filing of an FIR against the Director, Writer, and Producers of the movie for hurting Hindu sentiments and to protect the image of Bhagwan Shri Ram, Maa Sita, and Ramsevak Bhaghwan Hanuman.”

Protest against the release of Adipurush.

Adipurush, which came out on Friday, is a movie based on Ramayana and has been surrounded by controversy due to its dialogue. Many people have criticized the modern language used by certain characters, especially Hanuman, saying that it diminishes their respect. The film has also faced criticism for taking creative liberties in its story and straying from the sacred epic, which holds great significance for many Hindus.

On June 19, the Hindu Mahasabha filed a complaint with the Lucknow police against the creators of the movie. Joining the voices of criticism, the Samajwadi Party expressed that the film’s “cheap and superficial dialogues” have caused distress to the faithful and suggested that the film is part of a larger “agenda”. In Varanasi, activists from a Hindu organization protested against the movie by tearing its posters and urging people not to watch it.
