Naseeruddin Shah remembers why Ratna Pathak’s parents disapproved of their marriage, mentioning that he instantly fell in love with her when he first saw her.
Naseeruddin Shah revealed that he fell in love with Ratna Pathak Shah at first sight. However, her parents objected to their relationship because he had a history of “drug addict, ill-tempered, and had been previously married. In a recent interview, Naseeruddin also remembered their courtship days.

After being in a relationship for about seven years, actors Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseeruddin Shah tied the knot on April 2, 1982. Naseeruddin Shah has a daughter named Heeba Shah from his previous marriage. Ratna and Naseeruddin have two sons named Imaad and Vivaan Shah. Both Imaad and Vivaan have followed in their parents’ footsteps and pursued careers as actors.

Naseeruddin Talks About Their Live-in-Relationship Before Marriage
In a recent conversation with Humans of Bombay, actor Naseeruddin Shah shared his thoughts on love.
When asked if he lived with Ratna before getting married, Naseeruddin shared with Humans of Bombay, “We didn’t live together, we were in a courtship phase. I courted her for seven years before we got married. Her parents were not in favor of our relationship because I had a drug addict history, a previous marriage, and a bad temper. However, Ratna disregarded their concerns.”
He also shared about instantly falling in love with Ratna when he first laid eyes on her. “I was immediately drawn to Ratna… the moment I saw her. I had just completed my first film when we were introduced. She was involved in a Satyadev Dubey play, and I had already acted in one film. It just felt like I wanted to get to know this person. And she also liked what she saw, of course. It has been an incredible blessing. We have supported each other through thick and thin, especially Ratna who has stood by me during both difficult and joyous times.” He emphasized that the key reason their relationship has remained strong is that they have remained good friends.

Ratna Pathak Shah made her film debut in Gujarati cinema with the movie Kutch Express. Naseeruddin has also appeared in the Netflix web series Trial By Fire earlier this year.
